Why a Cello Trio?

Since the proliferation of YouTube phenomenons "The Piano Guys", and the popularity of 2Cellos, cello groups are rapidly increasing in popularity. If you listen closely to a large proportion of music on the TV and in films (prime example in Game of Thrones, as is topical at the moment).

The cello has one of the most versatile ranges of all string instruments, meaning we can play almost any music intended for string quartet or any other selection of instruments. This enables us to cover many types of music in unique ways.

The cello most closely resembles the human voice and vocal range, creating an emotive and resonant performance for the listener.

Our instruments are acoustic, and so we do not need amplification. We can play with amplification to serve as a feature, or without for live background music.

We are a hardworking, passionate and fun group of Plymouth university students, and we love playing the cello! We have a diverse repertoire covering all genres, from Bach to Beethoven and through to all kinds of popular music; pop hits and rock classics, musicals and even metal. We love producing new and innovative arrangements for our unique sound, so are open to taking requests for your special event.

We are a multi-instrumental group, and sometimes perform with more than just cellos, so if you would like an arrangement featuring a specific instrument of ours, that's possible too!

As well as being accomplished performers, we also compose original music. You can listen to synthesised versions of Joss’ compositions here.
